Tailor
welded blanks are two or more sheet metal blanks welded
into a flat blank assembly. The blank welding process
allows steel blanks of similar or dissimilar gauge,
grade, or coating to be joined into a single blank assembly,
then formed as an integrated stamped assembly at the
customer's facilities.
Studies
show that the use of tailored blanks can significantly
decrease vehicle mass while improving performance, all
at a lower cost.
Welded
blanks have eliminated the need for dozens of separate
parts previously required in complex vehicle assemblies.
